Comments: I attended this concert with Bill, Leslie and Linda. After the show all Leslie wanted to talk about was how not every man could wear pink (as Dennis DeYoung had that night). The show itself was pretty cool; the closest thing to rock ‘n’ roll theatre in the truest sense of the word that I have ever seen. A ten minute intro movie, setting up the whole scenario of Kilroy as a rock ‘n’ roll rebel branched seamlessly into the opening number of the concert. Even JY got into the act, “performing” his song Heavy Metal Poisoning as the evangelical Doctor Righteous during the concert. The show was unusual because the band didn’t perform an encore. Dennis figured that it was a stage production so the Don’t Let It End (Reprise) and Twist and Shout were their encores. The fans did not agree with his assessment of the situation and booed lustily when the band didn’t return for an encore. Following the release of their live album Caught In The Act, which was culled from shows on this tour, Dennis DeYoung left the band only to return a few years later for a short lived reunion. These days, Styx is still alive and well with local Toronto boy done good Lawrence Gowan taking over DeYoung’s vocal / keyboard duties in the band. Come to think of it Gowan has now been with Styx almost as long as the classic lineup were together. My, how time flies when your rocking your ass off.
