sarstock07302003Band: Have Love Will Travel Revue
Venue: Donsview Park, Toronto ON
Date: July 30, 2003
Tour:
Molson Rocks For Toronto

Songs:
Sweet Home Chicago (Robert Johnson cover) / She Caught the Katy (Taj Mahal cover) / (I Got Everything I Need) Almost (Downchild Blues Band cover) / Soul Man (Sam and Dave cover) / Everybody Needs Somebody to Love (Solomon Burke cover)

Members Of The Band:
Dan Akroyd (Vocals, Harmonica)
Jim Belushi (Vocals)

Comments: Rhonda, Ada, Ada’s daughter Sarah and Sarah’s friend (whose name escapes me at the moment) headed off early to SARStock. Since our friend Stefan and his buddy John wanted to go but couldn’t get off work until noon at the earliest I came along a few hours later. The long and the short of it is that I missed the first few acts, including Have Love Will Travel Revue. Visually speaking at the very least. Thing is we arrived just around the same time the band took the stage. We listened to their set while lined up waiting to get in. The exact set list isn’t known but this is a fairly safe approximation of what they played, based on other shows they performed around this time.

Band:
Sam Roberts

James Hall (Bass)
Dave Nugent (Lead Guitar)

Comments: Missed Sam Roberts as well. The set list is taken from the excellent if sometimes flawed set list site setlists.fm which I have used extensively in my research. I’ve even managed to add and or update some of their sets, so it’s all been good.

Band: Kathleen Edwards

Tour:
Molson Rocks For Toronto

Songs:
One More Song The Radio Won’t Like / Mercury / Six O’Clock News

Comments: Missed Kathleen Edwards as well. As above, the set list was gleaned from setlists.fm.

Band: La Chicane
Venue: Donsview Park, Toronto ON
Date: July 30, 2003
Tour:
Molson Rocks For Toronto

Songs: Viens Donc M’voir / Le Yab De St-Nitouche / Le Fil

Members Of The Band:
Martin Bédard (Drums)
Daniel ‘Boom’ Desjardins (Vocals)
Christian Legault (Guitar)
Éric Lemieux (Keyboards)
Éric Maheu (Bass)

Comments: Set list taken as best guest from the below Youtube videos from SARStock. It was just as La Chicane were leaving the stage that Stef, John and I finally made it to where the ladies were sitting. So, considering 15 – 20 minutes per act, plus breakdown and set up. It took us over an hour to make it from the gate to where we wanted to be. It was a miracle we ever found them. Cell phone coverage was spotty at best. They had been smart when they found a place to set up camp for the day. They picked a location right next to the backbone running down a goodly portion of the length of the crowd, with a great view of the first video screen. Without those kind of landmarks we may never have hooked up.

Ronald Jones (Guitar, Backing Vocals)

Comments: I haven’t been able to find any footage of The Flaming Lips at SARStock so I’ve included the next best thing… footage of them from the set at the Glastonbury Festival a month earlier. These bunch of loonies enlisted other band members to dress up in the costumes and cavort around the stage. A band I would truly love to see again, live in concert at some point before I shuffle off this mortal coil.
