DSC03191_resizeComments: This was the first time that I have seen Teenage Head since their heyday, back in 1982 in Oshawa. The only original member left is guitarist Gord Lewis. Original lead singer, Frankie Venom, succumbed to throat cancer back in 2008. The band were tight, but loose, they way all good punk bands should be. New singer, Pete MacAulay, sounded great and sang the lyrics with the same marbles in the mouth style as Frankie. Thing is, he lacked the same spite that made Frankie Venom so electric as a lead singer. I mean, I`m older, they`re older; maybe this was all just a direct result of getting older.

Nah!!! Long live Frankie Venom.

Heard more of Honeymoon Suite than I actually saw since my two guests arrived soon after they had taken the stage. So, the bands music acted as a back drop to our conversation. They certainly sounded like the Honeymoon Suite I remembered from their glory days. Once they left the stage and it was time for David Wilcox to take the stage Bob, one of my friends and a great musician in his own right, took the lead and said we had to make our way closer to the stage. Which we did.

Comments:
While I have always loved David Wilcox, I had never managed to see him live. Until last night. And man, I was NOT disappointed. I had won tickets through local classic rock radio station Q107 and it was to have been Rhonda and I going to see this summer bash. But Rhonda’s Mom took sick, terminally as it turned out, and she went south to be with her as well she should. Instead, I asked a good friend, Bob Wegner if he wanted to attend. As fate would have it, as a guitar player, he was a huge fan of Mr Wilcox. Seeing as a friend of the female persuasion was currently visiting him from her native England, the three of us made our way to the Sound Academy to enjoy and evening of fantastic guitar based rock ‘n’ roll.

It had been a goodly number of years since I had the opportunity to shoot someone as expressive as David Wilcox turned out to be. I could have shot his act all night long. The fact that the music was fucking killer was a bonus.
