Led Zeppelin – Celebration Day

After a week of speculation, one of the worst kept secrets in rock and roll was finally confirmed Thursday, September 13 when Led Zeppelin officially announced the release of Celebration, a concert movie shot at their vaunted 2007 O2 Arean show to raise money for their friend and mentor Ahmet Ertegun.

The announcement came after a countdown from 5 which started on the bands Facebook page. It didn’t take long for some folks to twig to the fact that September 12 was the fifth anniversary of the announcement of Led Zeppelin’s participation in the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert. A concert which Guiness World Records lists as holding the record for the “Highest Demand for Tickets for One Music Concert” as 20 million requests were rendered online for the 18,000 available seats.

While some fans were hoping for a Led Zeppelin reunion and new album and or tour, their hopes were somewhat misplaced, considering Robert Plant’s repeated insistence that he has absolutely zero interest in revisiting past glories.

What makes this release exciting is that, unlike previous reunions, the O2 gig was universaly praised as a triumph for Robert Plant on vocals, Jimmy Page on guitar, John Paul Jones on bass and keyboards and Jason Bonham, son of the late great John Bonham on drums.
